    Description

El Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) is a governmental organization and the primary social service agency in Mexico. DIF operates El Centro para la Protección Social de la Niñez, a homeless shelter for 10-20 boys ages 8-17. The resident population consists of boys who have been brought in off of streets, deported, or admitted by themselves, the police, or other family members. Most, if not all, of the boys have suffered from emotional or physical abuse, and many have been involved with drugs and prostitution. Ideally, this organization tries to provide them with life skills and facilitate their reunite with their families.
One of the main goals of the internship is to provide a reliable and consistent connection between the interns and the children. Interns provide lesson plans that are jointly conceived and designed and that are intended to teach about mexican culture, society, geography, history, and politics. Interns must be flexible, committed, and willing to adapt to changing circumstances. Your work in this environment can change lives, including your own.
